Board of Advisory Work
Some companies want to access the knowledge of our Principals on a regular basis. For these longer engagements, we often join the company's Board of Advisors. In so doing, the company has a valuable sounding board, leverages our network of contacts, and gets ongoing support as we evangelize the company at telecom events worldwide. Typically, this is done for an equity share of the company or on a retainer basis.
Naturally, we cannot offer this service to every company, but if the opportunity is exciting enough, we are motivated to join in and get our hands dirty.
Due Diligence
The Kerton Group sees a lot of startups in any given year. We work with many as clients, but we work with hundreds a year in our nine-year legacy of managing the Service Provider Investment Forum. We witness which companies get funded, which get adopted by partners, and which eventually succeed. We've also heard thousands of questions put to the startups by the VCs and telcos at our meetings. As moderators of the meetings, we ask the questions ourselves. Our Due Diligence services don't try to crunch the numbers on the startups (we leave that to the quant jocks), but instead we ask the tough strategy questions, the product questions, examine the threats and the risk factors, and evaluate the startups prospects in the telecom ecosystem that we know so well. There's always a handful of startups doing the same thing-our job will be to tell you if this is the best of them, or the lower quartile.

Usually firms that hire our experts for legal cases use our input to create their arguments and understand what the counter arguments may be. In these cases, we are consulted not deposed. However due to our strong background in wireless services and our expertise in the wireless market, we are occasionally deposed as expert witness in patent litigation in the wireless space.
